2024 Reviews
Fright Farm
Location: 2043 Springhill Furnace Rd
Smithfield, PA 15478
Fright Farm has been around for 3 decades and has been scaring people for over 30 seasons! This year it features hayride of no return, hallow grounds, trick or treat, shallow wharf, the farmhouse, hotel Hawthorne, the tenement, and slaughter hollow. After purchasing tickets from the ticket booth you take the path down to the midway. The midway has carnival type games, photo ops, live music, a large gift shop, the snack stand and a pizza spot. There is also tons of seating.
If you purchase regular tickets, before entering into the midway, the security guard will give you a group number. They have a large display at the entrance of the attraction to ensure things run smoothly and no one misses their group.

There was some construction going on at the haunt for new attractions coming for the regular season but overall everything was awesome as usual.
There were 3 attractions open which were Den of Darkness, Frightmare Asylum and Demented Nocturnal Wasteland.
All sets and prompts were done perfectly and stood up to our expectations.
Actor/Audience interaction: 4
All of the actors were really fun and interactive while going through each of the haunts.
There definitely did not seem to be a lack of actors. They had plenty and they were all very good at their jobs.
The only complaint is the actors with chainsaws all seemed to be doing the same thing so it was sort of repetitive and not too much of a thrill because you knew what was going to happen based off seeing the person in front of you.
Ticket prices/wait times/entertainment: 5
Tickets for this haunt were $25 for all 3 open attractions is a very good deal for what they have to offer.
In addition to the attractions they also offer axe throwing, escape rooms, carnival games, food trucks, music and a photo booth so lots to do!
They also have an awesome little booth to purchase all kinds of field of screams items and more! They had tshirts, sweatshirts, bracelets, stickers, pencils, pens, backpacks and more. The prices for these items were also super reasonable!
We had VIP tickets so we did not have to wait for any of the attractions but the normal lines were not too bad and seemed to be moving pretty quick.
The actors walking around were all super fun and also willing to take any pictures you wanted while still being able to provide scares and thrills, of course.
Makeup and props: 5
Again everything was awesome. I do not think there's anything they needed to do differently.
The only complaint is, again, they were chainsaw happy. I think they either could have done with a few less chainsaws OR had the actors with chainsaws not doing the same exact thing with every person that came through the haunt.
The wasteland was absolutely amazing. The detail put into that was incredible.
Overall score/thrill factor: 5
Castle Blood Review- March 15th, 2024

Set Design: 3
The sets and prompts were very fitting for the theme the haunt was aiming for. However, there were no “normal” horror related items. The set was appropriate for the theme of the haunt. It just was not your typical haunt.
Actor/audience interaction: 5
All of the actors at this haunt were friendly but I do not think they were prepared for confusion. During this haunt you were on a mission to find items before you reached the end. As you went through the haunt you were stopped at stations to solve riddles to get your items. A Lot of the riddles were very confusing and this left the actors thrown off by our reactions and it left them kind of unsure how to react. Overall, though, everyone involved was very friendly and nice and they all seemed to really enjoy being there to play their roles.

Pennhurst Asylum Review
The Asylum, Basement and Tunnels:
Set Design: 1
Overall, the props made sense and seemed to be well thought out.
The only complaint is they were sort of mediocre and repetitive.
We weren’t very impressed and thought there could have been more thought put into it.
The tunnels seemed to just be filled with a lot of empty space.
Actor/Audience interaction: 3
The actors were not displaced very unevenly throughout the attractions.
They were not on que with the flow of each guest/groups.
Many of the actors either broke character or just did not do anything at all.
There was a good number of actors, however.
Some of the actors did very well and could tell that they were into their jobs and really enjoyed it.
Overall, they could defiantly benefit from more training or practice.
Make up and props: 5
The makeup and actual costumes were all done great but again just very repetitive.
The most up to date technology was used in the attraction to replace actors in certain zones.
Overall scare/thrill factor: 1
None of the attractions were “scary”
Very disappointing.
Overall rating of the attraction: 3
We do feel that everyone involved put effort into it but unfortunately it was just very disappointing.
We do recognize that this is an off season Haunt for a convention, but haunters all over the world are coming and a little more effort should have been placed.
Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride (ECHC)
The Haunt Reviewer joined the East Coast Haunters Convention for a Friday night tour that we were thoroughly impressed with from creeping in the dungeons of the asylum to finding ourselves in the bates motel. We had an amazing time and this adventure was worth the time and the drive.
Set Design: Both the hayride and the motel did an excellent job with an off season haunt in the short amount of time it took to be able get ready for the convention. Everything in each set was properly placed from the props to the design. All the Themes matched one another without any deviation from the script. The props were up to date with the latest technology that will give you a scare of a life time. We throughly enjoyed both the hayride and the walk through . We give set design a 5 out 5 !!!
Actor/Audience Interaction: This was not lacking in this attraction all the actors were ready to scare and took their roles very seriously. The one thing you will always notice is actors that love there JOB or role in an attraction by the simple fact that they put 100% forward to get the job done.
Ticket Prices, Games, Wait time and Entertainment: This is an off season event, so we were throughly surprised that they had a lot open compared to other haunts in the OFF Season. They had a food stand open with lots of choices for food, they had a donut stand to get fresh donuts. They had axe throwing and all the escape rooms to fit the needs of all the guests.
Make up and props: The props and make up were perfectly designed and placed to get the element of fear that the audience wanted. The props were up to date with nothing but the best. The animatronics were on cue with no lapses. We did have one complaint that the audio for the hayride was not working properly so that took away from a lot of the scenes during the hayride. The owners and managers were so accommodating to allow us to get on a different wagon for a better experience.
Overall Scare/Thrill Factor:With it being the off season, It’s hard to make this judgement or rating due to the lack of knowing what to expect , but from the show that we did see the actors provided a thrill that was like no other. We were extremely happy with the hard work that was put forth.
Overall rating of the Entire Attraction: The entire attraction was very different then many of the haunts we have seen before. We attended this haunt in the fall of 2016 and loved it then and we will continue to love the great show this attraction puts on.
